SEBAC Statement on Expanded Access to Fertility Treatments for LGBTQA+ State Employees and Their Covered Dependents

Hartford, CT - SEBAC and our constituent unions are proud to continue to be strong advocates for our LGBTQA+ member with the latest modifications to expand access to fertility treatments, regardless of sexual orientation.    The change was approved by the joint Health Care Cost Containment Committee at the suggestion of State Comptroller Sean Scanlon.

Before this modification, the language created hurdles for  LGBTQA+ members seeking to conceive, but this new change would extend coverage to all members, including members who are unable to achieve pregnancy either as individuals or couples because they do not have the “necessary gametes.”

This change continues our unions’ long tradition of fighting for workplace equity, including in health care.   As always, stronger together.
